In this exquisite piece of Indian Tribal Art, we get a glimpse of Indian Tribal Life. Executed beautifully on a canvas of cloth is an image of rural India – depicted with all its vibrancy and core philosophy. The essence of tribal India lies in the integral relationship between man and nature, flora and fauna. The rhythm of human society is synchronous with the beat and movement of nature and all things natural. This pantheistic belief is the core philosophy on which Tribal India has thrived through ages. The painting in concern amply portrays this philosophy through a simple yet charming depiction of tribal life. The main thrust of the painting is on a tree, and we call it ‘The Tree of Life’. While the branches of the tree are home to birds and monkeys, human beings are seen niched under its shade, rearing domestic animals. Happy birds are flying about. Following tradition, this painting uses double borders. The tree is edged with bold-lined designs and animals are used as a part of that design. At the base of the canvas, we get to see some shades of domestic life. Small clay huts, trees, women with baskets, men rearing cattle and hunting with bow and arrows – life and livelihood at their basics. The painting is crowned by a sequence of dance – men, animals and instrument are guilded together sounding the unequivocal music of life. The outer border of the painting uses bold black design. True to its thematic essence, the painting uses soft earthen pastel colors.
