Potter’s House-Patachitra

Dimensions : 11 x 6 Inches

The traditional folk painting-‘Talapatrachitra’ show a scene from typical potter’s household. The potter’s wheel outside the modest dwelling is used to produce countless earthenwares of different shapes and sizes. The lady is arranging the pots while her young boy is looking intently at the production technique. In Indian villages, the occupations are hereditarily defined; the boys at young age start learning the nuances to get the craft right.

Another man squatting on a floor is checking the sturdiness of the pots while a dog keeps a guard at the pot on fire. The day is bight with birds and animals in full action. The frolic monkeys climb up the trees whilst a bull stands peacefully in the background.

The handmade painting in natural colors on the dried palm leaves makes one marvel at the perfection of Indian art.
