The folk art- ‘Talapatrachitra’ is handmade and shows young Krishna-one of the most adorable Indian gods stealing butter along with his friends.

Krishna since childhood with his mischievous pranks was the doted child of all and one. Krishna was brought up in the cowherd community where milk, and butter were the wealth. He loved butter, more so by stealing it. It is said that gopis churned out the most nectarean butter in the hope that Krishna would come to their home and steal it. Krishna along with his gang of friends would sneak into their houses, break the butter pots and savor the creamy delight.

The painting shows his friends forming the human staircase and Krishna at the top taking out the butter from the pot and distributing a share to his pal.

The painting done on dried palm leaves carries natural colors derived from vegetable dyes. The finesse of the strokes demonstrates the skill and the precision of the artist.
