The history of leatherwork can be traced to emergence of a civilization, the domestication of animals brought in the knowledge of tanning of hides, pelts and skins of animals. The literary sources also mention to the use of animal hides for making tents, bags, caps, saddles armor, clothes and footwear.
The most common form of leather is derived from cowhides. The skin of lambs, deers, kangaroos, snakes and crocodiles are also in vogue for making utility and fashion items. |
