Andhra Pradesh (India) is renowned worldwide for its range of rich and wonderful toys and dolls. Since time immemorial, people have used these handcrafted statuettes to express their joys, love, beliefs and wishes. Along with being an inextricable part of Indian life, these traditional Indian toys and dolls are also much sought after as Home Decors. The object d’art in concern is a mimetic recreation of a solemn moment of Indian social life, the first journey of the new bride to her husband’s home. Carried in a Palanquin (closed litter carried on the shoulders of bearers), hidden from curious glances, the bride approaches with much pomp and glory. Drums and pipes, music and laughter announce her auspicious arrival. This precious moment of celebrations is expressed though the meticulously crafted wooden figures and the jubilations are aptly conveyed through the use of euphoric colours.
