People of India

Dimensions : 11 x 5.5 Inches

Dumb wood can speak millions at times. The wooden toy dolls from Andhra Pradesh, India, speak all about Indian history and culture. Mounted on a podium are small figures of the Indian populace, in all its variety of caste, creed, religion and colour. They represent India and its diverse culture. They stand in pairs carrying their hereditary professional tools and accessories. The most interesting thing to note is the Indian Sepoy (Indian recruited in British Military Service) at the top left corner of the podium. He has an air of authority and is seen at a dictatorial stance. However, he too, is a part of the people of India. The finery of these traditional Indian artefacts narrates this timeless toy story wonderfully.
