Leather Sandals

There are many techniques whereby the skin of a dead animal can be converted into leather. They are:

Vegetable-tanned leather: As the name suggests vegetable matter, tree bark, and other such sources are used to make this leather. This type is not stable in water, discolors and shrinks. Hence, it becomes a rigid and brittle material.

Alum-tanned leather: This process involves aluminum salts mixed with a variety of binders and protein sources. The leather through this technique has a tendency to rot in water.
