Cave Painting

Paintings Cave painting is the germination point of all Indian paintings . The cave Indian paintings of Bhimbetka are thousands of years old.The ancient people tried their hands in painting depicting every aspect of their social life. The pictures of group dance, mask dance and stick dance remind of their leisure time, and the paintings of man with the dog, deer hunting, war etc reflect upon their lives and livelihood.

The images of a deer running away from the lion, animals crying for help to the hunters, men running away from wild boar show their great imagination, while the image of the elephant in deer’s stomach intensifies their sense of humor.

They painted images of birds, animals, man and woman in triangular, rectangular, hexagonal and circular patterns using red, green and white colors. Different rock weapons, tools, ceramic and bones, bows and arrows, knives were used in painting on the cave walls. Fingers, sticks or needles obtained from porcupines were used as painting brush. The cave paintings have lost their original luster due to the wear and tan of natural adversaries, yet they paintings speak of the evolution of human civilization. These cave Indian paintings were the expressions of humanity in its true essence. They were not bound by any artistic norm; therefore the pictures came to life in full freedom and expression.
